Meet José: Athlete of the Month
Athlete of the Month: José | 14 Years Old | Basketball
This month, we’re proud to feature 14-year-old José, a talented and hardworking basketball player who’s been playing since he was 7. José began his journey with the Español de Osorno club in Chile and now plays with Raincity U14.
José loves the strategy of the game - creating plays, making passes, and hitting big shots. His favorite moment this season was sinking a game-tying three-pointer that sent his team into overtime. Beyond basketball, José has learned discipline, responsibility, and respect—values he applies both on the court and in his daily life. His parents have noticed his growth, especially in his commitment to training and focus at school.
José dreams of earning a college scholarship and continuing his basketball career, inspired by his brothers’ success in the sport. Though adjusting to life in a new country has been a challenge, basketball has helped him find strength and a sense of belonging.
His parents shared that basketball has not only helped José build confidence but has also taught him the importance of perseverance. They’ve seen firsthand how his hard work, both in sports and school, has shaped him into a more responsible and dedicated young man.
Through his hard work and perseverance, José shows us the true meaning of dedication. His story is a reminder that with passion and effort, anything is possible. We’re proud to support José’s journey through Athletics for Kids and look forward to cheering him on as he continues to pursue his goals.
Without our incredible network of donors and volunteers, kids like Vihan would be left on the sidelines due to financial barriers. At just $17 a month, you give kids in BC the opportunity to play sports through our Sport4Life Grant Program. Please click here to give generously today.
